ABOUT LIZ

Liz has been training horses professionally since graduating from Stephens College in 1992 with a degree in Equestrian Science. Prior to college, she exercised race horses and worked as a groom to earn her lessons at local stables in Kentucky. In 1998, she built Drew Training Stables in Troy, MO and currently works with many breeds of horses, from youngsters to dressage horses in international levels of competition. As many as 20 horses are under her supervision at home and many more receive guidance at other area barns where she teaches. Many breeds are represented at DTS: Warmbloods, Thoroughbreds, Quarter Horses, American Saddlebreds, Arabians and Paints. Liz also has experience training gaited horses, including Tennessee Walking Horses, Foxtrotters and Paso Finos. Liz is also a retired professional boxer and in February 2006, was ranked #1 by the Women’s International Boxing Association in the light-weight division. She uses this experience as well as her knowledge of nutrition to develop conditioning and fitness programs for her riders. She has been featured as a motivational speaker for various local and national groups and has been interviewed by radio hosts in the area.

WHAT IS DRESSAGE?

“Dressage is the execution of precision movements by the horse in response to barely perceptible signals from the rider.” More simply, it is a kind, logical method of training ANY horse to perform better in ANY discipline. The position of a dressage rider puts her in perfect balance with the horse’s center of gravity, enabling her to communicate with her horse in the most subtle way. No matter how much or how little talent a horse has, whether he cost $200 or $20,000, his strength, balance, flexibility and coordination can be improved with dressage training. Some students dream of competing and some are here simply to improve their communication with their horses and form a better partnership. Whatever your goals, dressage training can help you achieve them.

COMPETITION

The “Drew Crew” attends several shows each year with both horses and riders earning regional and national honors. Liz was awarded her United States Dressage Federation Silver Medal in 2007 and her partner, Jordache, was Reserve Champion FEI Horse of the Year in 2006 and 2007, both with Missouri Horse Show Association and the St. Louis Area Dressage Society.
